Pallet Rack Inspection & Repair in the U.S.

Forklift impact, overloading, and aging hardware turn a sound rack system into a collapse risk — and OSHA cites rack failures under the General Duty Clause. Alliance inspects your pallet rack against RMI (Rack Manufacturers Institute) and ANSI MH16.1 guidelines, photographs and rates every deficiency, and gives you a prioritized report you can hand to a safety officer or insurer. Then we fix what we find: column repair kits, front-column and footplate replacement, load-beam swaps, and full bay replacement, with 24-hour emergency response when a damaged upright is threatening to come down. We service rack across the country regardless of who installed it.

Inspection & Repair — Common Questions

How often should pallet racking be inspected?

RMI and ANSI MH16.1 recommend a documented "technically competent" inspection at least annually, plus ongoing visual checks by your own staff. High-traffic operations, cold storage, and facilities with frequent forklift contact should inspect more often. Alliance runs annual programs and one-time inspections nationwide — call (240) 269-2216 to schedule.

What is an RMI / ANSI pallet rack inspection?

It is a structured safety inspection against the Rack Manufacturers Institute and ANSI MH16.1 standards — the recognized benchmarks OSHA looks to. We check uprights for bends and tears, beam-to-column connectors and safety clips, baseplates and anchors, plumb/lean, overloading, and missing components, then rate each finding by severity so you know what is urgent versus what to monitor. Alliance performs RMI/ANSI rack inspections nationwide.

Can damaged pallet rack be repaired, or does it have to be replaced?

Many damaged uprights can be repaired with an engineered column repair kit that restores or exceeds the original capacity — often without unloading the entire bay. When damage is severe, above the kit's rated zone, or affects multiple members, replacement is the safe answer. Alliance assesses each case against the manufacturer and RMI guidance and tells you honestly which path is appropriate — repairing and replacing rack nationwide.

What is a column repair kit?

A column repair kit is an engineered, bolt-on or weld-on section that replaces the damaged lower portion of a rack upright and re-establishes its load capacity. Used correctly it is a fast, cost-effective alternative to replacing a whole frame — but it must be the right kit for that rack and installed to spec, which is why it should be done by trained installers rather than patched in-house. Alliance installs engineered column repair kits to spec nationwide.

Is pallet rack inspection an OSHA requirement?

OSHA does not have a single rack-specific regulation, but it enforces rack safety under the General Duty Clause (and citations are common after collapses or injuries). Following RMI/ANSI MH16.1 inspection and repair guidance is how facilities demonstrate due diligence. Alliance's documented, photographed reports give you the paper trail safety officers and insurers expect nationwide.

Do you offer emergency rack repair?

Yes — Alliance provides 24-hour emergency response nationwide when a forklift has struck an upright and the bay is at risk. We can shore or offload the affected bay, source the right repair components, and get the system safe quickly. Call (240) 269-2216 for emergency rack repair.

What do the red, yellow, and green rack tags mean?

It is the standard RMI risk classification. Red means immediate hazard — offload and isolate the rack now; yellow means damage that exceeds the tolerance and needs repair soon but the bay can stay loaded with caution; green means within tolerance, monitor at the next inspection. Alliance's reports apply this rating to every deficiency so your team can act in priority order nationwide.
